Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Lanterns News

Experience the Magic of Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns Before They Are Over on Feb 22

Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns are lighting up the city with a mesmerising glow, and there’s still time to enjoy them before they are over on 22 February 2026. After a six-year break, this spectacular after-dark experience has returned with a stunning new theme inspired by underwater worlds.

Across 60 illuminated evenings, visitors can wander a beautifully designed trail featuring more than 600 large-scale lantern sculptures. Expect glowing jellyfish, towering sea turtles, luminous sharks and even a walk-through whale, all crafted by skilled artisans and brought vividly to life with thousands of LED lights.

This isn’t just an outing for families. The Giant Lanterns are equally perfect for adults looking for something different to do in the city. With designated adult-only evenings, it’s an atmospheric option for a date night, a relaxing evening stroll with friends or a memorable cultural experience. There are also quieter sessions for those who prefer a calmer pace.

Food and drink spots along the trail add to the experience, and every ticket helps support the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s conservation efforts, both locally and globally.

Whether you’re seeking a unique night out or hoping to soak up some creative inspiration, Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns is a must-see before it finishes later this month.
